Yangon is a city of golden spires, busy markets, colonial style buildings and charming & gracious people is well known as Rangoon before. It is the capital of Myanmar and the centre of the country’s administration and economy. In 1755, King Alaung Phaya (the founder of Kon-Bong Dynasty) conquered lower Myanmar and Dagon capital. He renamed, Dagon to Yangon which literally means end of strife.

Yangon is famous for the massive Golden Pagoda (Shwedagon) a world reknowned stupa for its religious significance, artistic beauty and its association with Myanmar culture. The golden Stupa. is tawering 98 meters high and originally built over 2500 years ago. It was renovated by the various kings and the present form of Shwedagon Pagoda back to 1769.

Other highlights of Yangon are Sule Pagoda (the heart of city), Kaba Aye (the world peace) pagoda; Chauk-Htat Gyi (the colossed reclining Buddha); Botataung Pagoda; National Museum; Gem Museum; China Town; India Town; Bogyoke Aung San Market; the colonial style buildings; the World War II British Cemetry (Htauk Kyant) and Shwe Nyaung Pin Guardian spirit shrin for car safety.
