Mawlamyaing (Mudon/Thanphyuzayat/ Kyaikkami Settse Beach)
Mawamyaing is the capital of Mon State located at 270 km south East of
Yangon. Its can take by car (or) by train to Mottama and then proceed to Mawlamyaing by Z-craft to cross the Thanlwin
(Salwin) river. It lies at the Mouth of Thanliwn river about 39 km up stream from the Gadwin Lighthouse so the strand road is attractive for walking tour and view point for sun set. Mawlamyaing, Kyait Than Lan Pagoda, known as the kipling Pagoda, (the citys tallest and most visible pagoda); over 100 years old Seindon
Mibayakyaung, a monastery where Queen of King Mindom sought refuge; U khan Ti, U Zinana Pagoda, Taungpaw Pagoda, can be seen in
Mawlamyaing. It is also the gateway to Mudone, Thanbyue Zayat, Kyaikkami-Sellse for day return trip.
Mudone is a small town noted for its weaving cottage industry. It is on the way to Mawlamyaing and Thanbyuzayat by car trip. It is an enjoyable dirve along the trip with green and fresh and picturesque. The streches of para-rubber plantations were seen on either side of the road. The gigantic reclining Buddha Image, which under construction in Mudon will be known as the world largest reclinging Buddha Image.
ThanbyuZayat is 35km away from Mawlamyaing. It was the Western terminus of the infamous Burma-Sian Railway (the Death Railway) by the thousands of allied prisoners of World War II and Asian and local people. They were forced by the Japanese Military to built it which was connected with the famous River KWAI (Thailand). The II World War Menorial Cemetry (both Allied soliders and Japanese soliders) is also in
Thanbyuzayat.
Kyaikkhami is famous for its Ye-Le-Pha-Ya (Island Pagoda). It is a short drive from Thanbyuzayat. Settse Beach is near Kyaik Khami. The pligrims and the tourists visit to Settse beach after KyaikKhami to be relax at the unspoilt seaside.
